Remember Wichita?
I do.
I remember getting pulled over by two… yes two, Wichita Police officers, and sitting in a parking lot for about an hour while they tried to figure out what we were doing speeding in their town, in a car from Tulsa, with a license from Tennessee, and insurance from California.
I remember pulling away with two…yes two, tickets that I needed to get home and take care of. One for speeding and one for not being able to prove that I was, in fact, insured.
To make a long, stupid story short. My insurance company faxed proof that I was insured to the Wichita Police, and I was able to stop thinking about it. Until about a month ago when I received a letter from the Tennessee Department of Safety, stating that the Wichita Police never received the fax, and the “case” had been forwarded to my state of residence. I now had two weeks to prove to the State of Tennessee that I was, still, in fact insured at the time of the ticket. Another call to the insurance company confirming that they faxed the information to Wichita and then asking them to fax that same information to the Department of Safety in Tennessee.
Today this comes in the mail:
“Your driving privileges are currently revoked, suspended or cancelled for the following reasons:
*CONVICTION FOR FAIL TO SHOW EVIDENCE – KANSAS”
(Nice sentence structure, Department of Safety)
The letter went on to tell me how I need to pay a bunch of money and go get a new license and once again prove that I was insured back in February.
See, here’s the funny part. I travel, and drive, for a living. Not only that, I’m leaving for California for two weeks on Monday. So today I was driven around by my wife, like a deadbeat daddy who’s “old lady” has to take him around because he had one to many D.U.I.’s.
**Turns out, after a phone call to said Department Of Safety, and about three minutes of a government employee actually doing their job, the fax was found and the “revoke” was dropped. Well, it will be dropped… Monday… if someone gets around to it. As for this weekend, my “old lady” will be driving me around in my white tank-top, and confederate flag trucker cap.**

Comment by Dos Booters July 20, 2007 @ 11:36 pmSo are you like a temporary felon? Cool.
Seriously, though, I imagine that was pretty frustrating. Glad you got it worked out.
Comment by Kat July 21, 2007 @ 8:28 amGood luck with the next round of paperwork, clearing the “revoke”. It’s an exciting life you lead, Brody.

Comment by Kddub July 21, 2007 @ 9:01 amOne more example of why I don’t believe the governments of this world can handle the biggest problems of this world. They can’t handle the small ones all that well. Passports. DMV lines. Mail. Social Security. Keeping a guy with small pox off an airplane. This. And we want them to launch an insurance program for all citizens? I wonder how well THAT would work?

Comment by shaungroves July 21, 2007 @ 12:20 pmOh, and it’s been four months since the TSA began investigating whether they will or won’t replace my credit card machine they smashed for me. Four months, five faxes, three sets of paper work, two different case numbers assigned…then they lost the paper work and all traces of my case. I’m doing it all over again…just to get damaged property replaced. AHHHH!
