MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (AP) — Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables…

“The mock attack Thursday night was intended as a learning experience and lasted five minutes during the weeklong trip to a state park, said Scales Elementary School Assistant Principal Don Bartch, who led the trip.”

There’s no cure for stupidity! My middle schooler was involved in a lockdown at her school last year because of a very real threat. The school handled it very well and no one was upset, etc. Parents were NOT notified until the incident was over and the suspect apprehended. Many parents were outraged at not being told as things were unfolding. I was happy with the way they handled it all. How would a thousand parents rushing the school to try to get their kids have helped the officials get the suspect or keep the students and facilty safe? Playing a prank like this though is just uncalled for and very insensitive. Of course, the lawyers will convince someone to file a multimillion dollar lawsuit for emotional anguish, just to “make a point.”

Do you guys remember when they used to do those nuke drills?

Looking back, I wonder how getting under my desk would help me from getting my face burned off by a zillion degree inferno blast coming from the direction of the mushroom cloud.

I guess they thought it would make us feel better. Just ended up scaring the crap outta me.
